Despite thousands of years of evolution human body hasn’t changed that much. Fat and high-energy food was increasing chances for survival and brain was rewarding us for such goods. But food like that was scarce and attempts to get it were risky and effortful. Long journeys for food were detrimental for human’s body which was losing weight. It had to find a way to store fat and energy for hard times. This survival mechanism was not pleasant and our brain is still using it nowadays to prevent you from losing fat.
Diet is not easy. If it was, there wouldn’t be people who are constantly “on a diet”. Some people try couple of different diets, don’t lose weight and claim that diets don’t work. Other are successful in losing some weight but after some time they come back to old habits and get even more fat then before. The percentage of people who are really successful — lost weight and maintain healthy lifestyle — is very low.
But why is that? After all, behind losing or gaining weight stands a very simple philosophy connected with daily calorie needs. If you eat the exact amount of calories that you need per day (like 2000 kcal) — you will maintain weight, more — you will gain weight, less — you will lose weight.
So why is it so hard to stick to a diet plan, lose excessive fat and — after getting our desired physique — maintain a healthy body? Because diet is stressful. For us but also for our body that has to deal with limited calories intake and starts revolts. We start experiencing mood swings, more stress and irritation.
Diet is stressful. For us but also for our body that has to deal with limited calories intake and starts revolts.
The crucial thing to remember is that a diet should be well-balanced (i.e. it should provide proper micro and macro components) and considered. You can lose weight on junk food but it will quickly ruin your health and body. When we lower daily calories intake we must choose food that will give us as many benefits as possible. Replacing unhealthy food with the right products is what we call a well-balanced diet.
Diet starts in your head.
Diet starts in your head. You are unsatisfied with your body and want to get more attractive. Sometimes you’re forced to do it because of health issues. Aiming for a healthy, attractive and satisfying physique is natural and desirable. You can find lots of examples of quasi-happy obese people but most often it’s just a mask and putting on a brave face. Such people have record of unsuccessful attempts, gave up and created own philosophy for their failures. But a conscious and responsible person doesn’t ruin his health. And health can be ruined by excessive amount of fat. Obesity is a disease; vitals work less effective, body is being exhausted faster and more and more health issues appear. We’re becoming a ticking bomb. Heart attacks below the age of 30 is nothing surprising because society (especially “the Western” one) is getting more and more fat every year.
So why do we hurt our body? Because it is not easy to change. Quit eating junk food is not easy. Fatty and sweet meals make us feel good. Lots of us cope with stress by eating. It works. We’re hard-wired for fatty and sweet food. In the past, such food was increasing chances for survival (and unlike today — it was in scarcity). Our brain likes it and increases the level of dopamine boosting happiness. Sweets are addictive. You’re going crazy without them. You feel that you lack something. Throughout years, your brain accustomed to such stimulation and now wants its portion of sugar.
We’re hard-wired for fatty and sweet food. In the past, such food was increasing chances for survival.
But surfeit is one of the most dramatic ways to cope with stress. Sooner or later it will affect your physical and mental health. You’re getting used to fatty and sweet food, habit is created, you can’t stop. Repetitive habits are not that easy to change. Remember that stress won’t disappear from your life. You will always encounter more or less stressful situations.
Some of us gaze with envy at people who eat whatever they want and don’t get fat. Such enviousness is irrational because if someone is not fat it doesn’t mean that he’s healthy. Eating junk food for a longer time affects body negatively. All stays in the body. Moreover, metabolism starts to slow down at the age of 30. It’s harder to change habits when we’re older so people used to junk food will have bigger problems to modify their diet when forced to (e.g. because of health issues).
Is there any hope in this uneven fight? Sure! You can deal with all of the things mentioned; habits can be changed, stress can be overcome with the help of allies like sport, sex or meditation and you don’t have to quit eating fatty and sweet products — you just need to find healthy substitutes.
A conscious and responsible person doesn’t ruin his health. And health can be ruined by excessive amount of fat.
Diet is the key aspect in losing fat and getting a dream physique. Make sure it’s well balanced, has all the products that will satisfy your brain and creates lifelong healthy eating habits. Such diet will be an ally for your psyche in the struggle for a beautiful and vital body. Because diet starts in your head. When you accomplish your goals— strong, attractive body and good habits — it won’t be necessary to be on a diet because healthy style of eating will become your lifestyle.
